Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar (for batter)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for batter)
  • ½ teaspoon salt (for batter)

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the batter: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your donut pan. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. In another bowl, combine the milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  2. Fill the donut pan: Using a spoon or piping bag, fill each cavity about 3/4 full with the batter. Smooth the tops gently to ensure even baking and allow room for the donuts to rise without overflowing.
  3. Bake until golden: Place the pan in the oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the donuts spring back when lightly pressed and a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let them cool in the pan a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Coat with cinnamon sugar: While the donuts are still warm, melt butter in a shallow dish. In another dish, mix granulated sugar with cinnamon. Dip each donut first into the melted butter, then roll it in the cinnamon sugar mixture, coating evenly. Let the coating set for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Don’t overmix your batter to keep the donuts tender.
  • Use room temperature ingredients for a smooth batter and even baking.
  • Grease your donut pan well to prevent sticking and aid demolding.
  • Coat the donuts while they are still warm for the cinnamon sugar to stick better.
  • Try different toppings like powdered sugar dusting or a light glaze for variety.
