Ingredients

Scale

Bread Dough

  • Pre-made or homemade pizza dough (enough to roll out into a large rectangle about ½ inch thick)

Meat & Cheese Filling

  • 8 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Vegetables & Aromatics

  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

Seasonings & Sauces

  • ½ cup tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Finishing

  • 1 beaten egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels, then crumble it. In the same skillet, sauté chopped onions and garlic until fragrant and softened. Add ground beef and cook until browned, seasoning with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Stir in tomato sauce, then fold in crumbled bacon and shredded cheddar cheese. Let the filling cool slightly.
  2. Roll Out the Dough: Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the bread dough into a large rectangle about ½ inch thick, ensuring it is even for uniform cooking.
  3. Assemble the Garbage Bread: Spread the beef, bacon, and cheese filling evenly down the center of the dough, leaving space around the edges. Carefully fold the edges over the filling, fully enclosing it, and pinch seams tightly to prevent leaks during baking.
  4. Apply Egg Wash and Bake: Brush the entire assembled bread with beaten egg for a golden crust. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until the dough is browned and crisp.
  5. Cool and Slice: Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes. This resting time lets the filling set, making the bread easier to slice cleanly.

Notes

  • Use room temperature dough to make rolling and folding easier and prevent tearing.
  • Don’t overfill the bread to avoid leaks or uneven baking.
  • Seal edges firmly by pinching seams tightly during assembly.
  • Mixing different cheese types can enhance flavor and meltability.
  • Let the bread rest before cutting to maintain neat slices.
