Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup (165g) brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Add-ins

  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, chopped and well drained
  • 1 cup semisweet or dark chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Prep the wet ingredients: Cream softened unsalted butter with granulated and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract to infuse warmth into the dough.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt to ensure even distribution of leavening and seasoning.
  3. Mix wet and dry components: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, folding gently to avoid overmixing and keep the cookies tender.
  4. Fold in cherries and chocolate chips: Chop maraschino cherries into bite-sized pieces, pat dry to remove excess moisture, and fold them along with the chocolate chips into the dough evenly.
  5. Bake until golden: Scoop dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet with space between each cookie. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10 to 12 minutes until edges turn golden and centers remain soft.

Notes

  • Chill your dough for at least 30 minutes before baking for thicker, chewier cookies.
  • Do not overmix the dough to avoid tough cookies; mix just until combined.
  • Drain maraschino cherries well and pat dry to prevent soggy cookies.
  • Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and promote even baking.
  • Test bake one cookie first to determine ideal baking time and make necessary adjustments.
