Ingredients

Scale

Pecan Pie Filling

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup or corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans

Whipped Cream

  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cake Layer

  • 4 cups vanilla pound cake or sponge cake, cut into bite-sized cubes

Additional Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup pecan halves or pieces (toasted for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pecan Pie Filling: Whisk the eggs with brown sugar, maple or corn syrup, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Fold in the chopped pecans. Pour the mixture into a baking dish and bake at 350°F (175°C) until set and golden on top, about 25-30 minutes. Allow to cool completely before layering.
  2. Whip the Cream: Beat the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Chill the whipped cream until ready to assemble.
  3. Cut and Toast Cake Pieces: Slice the pound cake or sponge cake into bite-sized cubes. Lightly toast them in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5-7 minutes to improve texture and help absorb moisture.
  4. Assemble the Trifle: In a large glass trifle bowl or individual jars, layer toasted cake cubes first. Spoon a layer of the cooled pecan pie filling over the cake, then add a generous layer of whipped cream. Sprinkle chopped toasted pecans over the cream. Repeat these layers until the container is full, finishing with whipped cream and pecan garnish on top.
  5. Chill and Serve: Cover the trifle and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or ideally overnight to allow the flavors to meld beautifully. Serve chilled for optimal taste.

Notes

  • Use fresh, toasted pecans for the best flavor and crunch.
  • Let the pecan pie filling cool completely before assembling to avoid melting the whipped cream.
  • Layer carefully to create distinct and visually appealing layers.
  • Choose a sturdy pound cake or sponge cake to prevent sogginess.
  • This dessert can be made a day ahead to enhance flavor melding.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Freezing is not recommended as it affects texture and consistency negatively.
  • Best served cold; reheat pecan pie filling separately if a warm option is preferred.
