Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients for Brownies

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (can substitute gluten-free blend)
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • Pinch of salt

Wet Ingredients for Brownies

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Ingredients for Pumpkin Swirl

  • 3/4 cup pumpkin puree (canned or fresh)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Brownie Batter: Melt the butter and mix it with sugar until the mixture is smooth and glossy. Stir in the eggs and vanilla extract until fully combined. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring gently to preserve the fudgy texture without overmixing.
  2. Make the Pumpkin Mixture: In another bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, baking powder, and vanilla extract until smooth. This spiced pumpkin mixture will create the moist and flavorful swirls throughout the brownies.
  3. Combine and Swirl: Pour half of the brownie batter into a greased baking pan. Spoon dollops of the pumpkin mixture evenly on top, then add the remaining brownie batter over it. Using a knife or skewer, gently swirl the two mixtures together with slow, controlled motions to achieve a marbled effect without fully blending them.
  4. Bake to Perfection: Bake the pan in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs. Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting to maintain distinct layers and ensure clean slices.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients for smoother mixing and better texture.
  • Do not overmix the batter to retain a fudgy and tender crumb.
  • Check the brownies a few minutes before the recommended baking time as ovens vary.
  • Swirl gently to maintain distinct marbled layers without over-blending.
  • Allow brownies to cool fully for cleaner cuts and better presentation.
